Why do you do the things you do?

📖 2 CORINTHIANS 12:19

“Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you.” 

❓ Why do you do the things you do?

Often, whether we realize it or not, selfish motives are behind our actions toward others. Instead of thinking: “How can I help them?”, we think: “What can they give me?”

This is called ‘transactional relationships’. You put something in – You get something out.

🗣️ BUT this is not God’s way

In the verse above, it’s clear, as Paul explains to the church in Corinth: 

“I am not thinking about myself. I am serving you.”

Remember Jesus, who had the full glory of God, yet He traded it all to walk our dusty streets. He humbled Himself, emptied Himself, and chose a radical downgrade of title (Philippians 2:7). The Son of God became the Son of Man.

💡 Let’s apply this:

1. Think of 1 selfless act you can do today. (put it into an “I will…” statement)
2. Who is the recipient? (your parents, siblings, friends, teachers)
3. When will you do it? (choose a specific time, set a reminder)
