“I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too – your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful – I can’t take it all in!” – Psalm 139:5-6
We have all been in the familiar situation where you have an idea in your head of how things will turn out and then the opposite happens. Perhaps you’ve studied hard for a test and felt confident until you received back a less-than-average mark, or perhaps you were sure someone liked you only to be let down when you asked them out.
Whatever the situation, when things do not go how we hoped they would it can be easy to get discouraged, negative, and even depressed. Today’s Bible passage explains how well God knows us. We can be confident and trust that we have a Heavenly Father who sees curve balls coming from far away. He protects those seeking shelter in Him and can quiet even our most stormy seas.
When we try to imagine how all of this is possible, we find that we cannot fathom God or put Him in a box. And that is okay because we were not made to be computers and understanding everything about God. We were made to be mirrors – reflecting the mysterious and wonderful beauty of God.
When The Unexpected Happens
Prayer: Heavenly Father, would you increase my faith to trust You when curve balls come my way? I don’t need to understand You, but I desire to know You personally. I know that I am safe in Your hands. Amen.
Challenge: When something doesn’t turn out the way you hoped it would this week, pause, pray, and ask God to increase your faith.
