‘How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.’ – Psalms 119:9
Are you concerned about being separated from your smartphone or laptop? Did you know that approximately 25% of young individuals access social media more than 10 times daily because they believe it helps them stay connected with friends? However, this constant engagement puts you at risk of falling victim to cyberbullying. Consider whether it is healthy to devote your entire day or a significant portion of it to social media instead of being productive, working hard, and experiencing a sense of fulfillment afterward. Reflect on this matter.
Which would you prefer? Online friends or the companionship of your school friends with whom you have a genuine connection? Online communication can have both positive and negative aspects. One drawback is that it hampers the development of your interpersonal skills in the real world. You may become uncertain about using appropriate body language or struggle with effective communication as well as managing and expressing your emotions may become challenging.
Moreover, online platforms can expose you to privacy invasions by “stalkers.” It can be challenging to distinguish between good and bad intentions. Exercise caution regarding inappropriate media content. Always be sincere and transparent with yourself and have an open dialogue with God about the dangers associated with social media.
Unplug & Thrive: Embrace Analog Balance
Prayer: Lord, I face numerous temptations on social media that require me to resist. I humbly request Your protection and guidance to navigate the positive aspects of social media. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Challenge: Set a screen time limit, unfollow or mute negative accounts, resist the urge to compare yourself, prioritise emotional well-being, engage in offline activities, practice self-care, and prioritise real-life connections over virtual interactions. Embrace this routine for a positive and balanced digital life.
