“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10
One of the greatest illusions that people live under is that they think they are in control. Jesus continually spoke about this with His disciples. All the things that give us a sense of having control in this world (such as money, fame, and success) can be taken away in a split second by a curve ball.
An example can be a parent suddenly losing their job or deciding to get divorced, or you suddenly lose your position in the A-team or get diagnosed with sickness. Job is a man in the Old Testament who had everything he could wish for. When everything got taken away from Job, he really struggled because his identity was tied to his ability to control his life.
In today’s Bible verse, God says: “Be still and know that I am God”. In other words, stop worrying and being anxious. Be still and see how HE will help you in this crisis and circumstances.
To Give Up Control
Prayer: Dear Jesus, would you teach me how to abide in You so that I may stand strong? I don’t want control if it means I cannot have You. Amen.
Challenge: When you lose control this week, lean back against Jesus instead.
