“The Son of Man also did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many people..” – Mark 10:45 NIV
Have you ever thought that Jesus was the only man who chose to be born and chose to die? In Mark 10:45, we see He came to serve us. Jesus also says He came “for” me and “for” you. The word “for” in this sentence means “in the place of.” He paid the ransom for us by dying for our sins. God made a plan to restore our relationship. Jesus Christ was the sacrifice that restored our relationship.
The word “ransom” was used during the slave trade when a kindhearted person could buy a slave and then release him, but the “ransom” had to be paid first. The price paid for you and me to “break free” from the hold of sin was Jesus’ blood on the cross.
How miraculous is it that you are no longer a slave to sin? You and I are free because Jesus is alive. He paid on the cross a costly debt for you and me to have this freedom.
The Ransom Was Paid
Prayer: Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me, Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for the cross and for letting me know my debt has been paid. Lord, thank you for reminding me that the ransom has already been paid. Make me brave so that I will allow You to make me more and more like Jesus each day in gratitude. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior. Amen.
