‘Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people told them, “This is a holy day for the Lord your God. Don’t mourn or cry.” All the people were crying as they listened to the reading of God’s Teachings. Then he told them, “Go, eat rich foods, drink sweet drinks, and send portions to those who cannot provide for themselves. Today is a holy day for the Lord. Don’t be sad because the joy you have in the Lord is your strength.”’ – Nehemiah 8:9-10
Depression can steal our joy and leave us feeling drained and weak. But as followers of Christ, we have access to a deep and abiding joy that can sustain us through even the most challenging times.
The joy of the Lord is not dependent on our circumstances. It comes from knowing and trusting in God’s love and faithfulness. When we focus on His goodness and grace, we can experience a joy that surpasses understanding.
The Joy of the Lord
Prayer: Gracious God, I thank You for the joy of knowing You. Please help me hold onto that joy, even when I struggle with depression or other challenges. Strengthen me with Your love and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Challenge: Take time to do things that bring you joy, whether it’s spending time in nature, listening to music, or spending time with loved ones. Cultivating joy in your life can help combat feelings of depression.
