Worship from the heart starts with worshipping Jesus from our spirits (John 3:23-24). While music is an amasing tool to improve our worship, we should not make it our only way of worshipping unto the Lord. We often miss out on a breakthrough because we are singing or playing our instrument with our heads, rather than our hearts. It’s important to make sure God remains the focus point of our life, and our worship.
God is looking for more than truthful songs. He wants us to adopt a posture of humility and confession in our worship, so that He can bless us with His truth. We should come to Him with softened hearts, ready to give Him our time and effort. Ready to receive His mercy and grace, ready to ask for forgiveness for our sins. It’s in this posture of obedience in our hearts that God speaks to us most often.
Secrecy and hidden sin can kill the worship coming from your heart. Worship is a good time to confess your struggles to God, and to your fellow Christians. It’s always better to bring things into the light, so that we can deal with it. For that, our hearts must be positioned in a place of softness towards God and His Word.
Heartfelt worship is not a performance. It will stir your emotions, sometimes so strong that your body can’t help but respond to God. It can be laughing, crying, or falling to your knees. Finally, worshipping God from the heart means that you are disregarding your time and giving Him the quality and quantity of focus that He deserves. It’s to fall at His feet, giving him everything, regardless of what the cost may be.
The Heart of Worship
Prayer: Lord God, I pray that You will soften my heart towards You. I ask for forgiveness for the times I made worship about my desires, when it should have been focused on You. I pray for humility in my soul, that You will restore me and teach me the way You want me to worship. Amen.
Challenge: Look at the way you worship. If it doesn’t align with what scripture says, change it. Seek in the Bible for ways that you can start to worship in a way that pleases God.
