The Freedom of Grace

‘Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.’ – Galatians 2:16

As young Christians, it is easy to fall into the trap of legalistic religion. We can become so focused on following rules and regulations that we forget the true heart of Christianity: a relationship with Jesus Christ. Legalism can make us feel like we need to earn God’s love and favor through our own works, but this is not the message of the Bible.

Legalism creates a burden that can weigh you down and make you feel like you can never measure up. But Jesus invites you to come to Him with your burdens and find rest (Matthew 11:28-30). Your salvation is not dependent on your efforts but on the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

Let’s strive to avoid legalistic religion and focus on building a relationship with Jesus. Seek to understand the love and grace that He has for you. As you grow in your relationship with Him, you will naturally desire to follow His commands (John 14:15) and live a life that honors Him.

The Freedom of Grace

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your grace and love that I do not have to earn. Help me avoid legalistic religion and focus on building a deeper relationship with You. Help me understand that my salvation is Your gift through faith in Jesus Christ. Give me the strength to follow Your commands and live a life that honors You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Challenge:

1. Strive to build a deeper relationship with Jesus and seek to follow His commands out of love and obedience.
2. Take a moment to examine your heart and see if you have fallen into legalistic thinking.
