‘When someone is tempted, he shouldn’t say that God is tempting him. God can’t be tempted by evil, and God doesn’t tempt anyone. Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him. Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death.’ – James 1:13-15
Temptation represents the potential for sinful thoughts or actions, but it is essential to understand that temptation is not a sin. Sin emerges when we succumb to temptation by rationalising our actions or allowing it to dominate our choices.
Most often, temptation entices us toward doing something wrong, which can lead to harm and devastation when we yield to it. Our temptations can be relentless, often compared to the devil’s attempts to lead us astray. However, the decision to commit sin ultimately rests with us.
The transformation into sin occurs when we give in to temptation, which can foster a vicious cycle of increasing sinful desires. Consider the example of pornography: indulging in one video can lead to many more, potentially leading to acts like adultery, with severe consequences for our future.
Remember, you possess the power to prevent temptation from evolving into sin.
Temptation, No!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I humbly seek Your guidance and the desire to glorify You in all my actions. Grant me the wisdom in my faith to recognise the nature of temptation and the strength to resist sin. I am thankful for Your presence in my life, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge: When faced with temptation, pause and question its worthiness and honorability. Immediately pray to the Lord for guidance and seek a positive distraction to resist its allure.
