“When the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.” – Matthew 7:25-27
Life is filled with symbolic storms. Some are seasonal, and others, in turn, are consequences of our choices. However, our ability to deal with these storms is rooted in our preparation for them.
In Matthew 7:25-27, Jesus uses the analogy of two houses—one built on a rock and the other on sand—to illustrate this point. Both houses are experiencing a major storm, but only those with a solid foundation remain standing. This principle also applies to us as individuals.
Those who overcome hard times are those who have Jesus as the foundation of their lives. He anchors us and protects us from the destructive forces of the storms of life. Even though we feel surrounded by enemies and problems (symbolised by floods), we can confidently know that we will not be moved, because Jesus Christ supports and saves us in every stormy moment.
Strong Foundations
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are aware of the storms I am going through. Help me to anchor myself in Your Word and make it my foundation. Make me aware that You alone can be my refuge in difficult times. I’m thankful for Your constant presence and know that no matter the circumstances, You’ll never leave me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Challenge: Contact friends and family. Ask about what and whom they turn to in difficult times and share the assurance that they have Jesus as their unshakable rock. Remind them that regardless of the challenges, the Lord is always with them.
