This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life. Fathers, don’t frustrate your children with no-win scenarios. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.” – Ephesians 6:1-4
“Children, do what your parents tell you. This delights the Master no end. Parents, don’t come down too hard on your children or you’ll crush their spirits.” – Colossians 3:20-21
“Point your kids in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost.” – Proverbs 22:6
“Wise son, glad father; stupid son, sad mother.” – Proverbs 10:1
God’s Word provides clear guidance on how Christians should live and behave; in our homes and towards each other as a family. God is the Head of our house, so we must listen to Him in His Word. He wants us to live together in love and peace, so we should respect one another. We as believers must act towards others as Jesus would have done. Let Jesus’ love shine through in all aspects of your life, whatever you do or say.
God has given us our parents, and we must obey them. Scripture says: you must respect your father and mother. It is also one of the 10 commandments in Deuteronomy 5:16 “You must love your father and your mother and listen to them, for I, the Lord your God, ask this of you.”
Solomon writes in Proverbs 4:3-4, “I, too, was also once young and inexperienced, lacking in knowledge. My father told me about life and said: Keep my words in your heart. Always think about it. Then you will be truly happy.”
