‘Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is right for him.”’ – Genesis 2:18
I’ve wondered at times “if relationships are important to God.” I’m not talking about friendship but romantic relationships. Well this question is already answered in Genesis 2. If God tells us so early in the Bible that relationships are important, how should we look at and approach relationships?
I don’t know about you, but when I read the word “helper” I got such a “worker-bee” feeling. But see, then I forget about the first part. Relationships are there so that I have someone who goes through life, work and grow WITH me.
Remember your NW project in primary school to germinate a seed? It must first be closed in cotton wool, then watered every day, not too much or too little and later if germinated within the right heat and it sprouts, it should be planted in soil. Still then you also need to do it carefully otherwise you will damage the plant and it may die. The process was a time-consuming one!
Relationships are the same. In the beginning, it is time-consuming. You take it step by step, then it grows until it can be replanted from the cotton wool to the soil.
Why is the process necessary, you may ask? Well, this is so that you can get to know each other and know how to help each other to have a healthy, strong relationship.
Remember, you weren’t made to be alone, and God knows we need someone. And His solution for loneliness is found in relationships. Someone who helps, supports, and loves us. Follow His strategy if you choose someone to enter into a relationship.
Relationships Are A Step-By-Step Thing!
Prayer: Lord, thank You for knowing I don’t want to be alone. I want my relationship to be for the glory of You. I need Your guidance to choose the right person. Please help me. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge: Take a look at your relationship. Did you take time to start healthy with a strong root system? Remember, we can always replant the little plant. If you are not yet in a relationship, begin slowly and healthy.
