Romans 5:6,8
6 When we were unable to help ourselves, at the right time, Christ died for us, although we were living against God… 8 But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
Quickly think of someone you would consider to be one of your favourite people; and then think of someone that you tend to argue with a lot. Our love is often very conditional (so we often love people because of what they do). We might feel that the bullies at school don’t deserve good things, but our friends do.
Fortunately, we do not control these kinds of things. God’s love for us is totally unconditional. This means that even if we do things that are not good and excellent in God’s eyes, He will not love us any less. God chose to come to earth and take our place on the cross, even though we as humans constantly seem to do things that are not on track in God’s eyes. Isn’t that crazy?
But that does not mean that we do whatever we like and forget about the consequences. If we are made new, Holy Spirit helps us to look more and more like Jesus. We are thankful that God has so much love for us: to send Jesus without the guarantee that we will follow him. Now that’s real love.
Real love doesn’t need a reason.
Prayer: Thank you Lord, that you love me despite the times when I do things that aren’t right. I want to radiate real love to the people around me – just as you showed me!
Challenge: Type/write a message to the person you regularly tend to disagree with (the one you thought of at the beginning of the Pitstop). Wish them a good day and honestly ask them how they are doing… even better if you can do this in person.
