1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Dear friends, you are like foreigners and strangers in this world. I beg you to avoid the evil things your bodies want to do that fight against your soul. 12 People who do not believe are living all around you and might say that you are doing wrong. Live such good lives that they will see the good things you do and will give glory to God on the day when Christ comes again.
Have you ever noticed that certain people’s good behaviour can offend other people? That’s very weird right? Why would anyone tell someone doing the right thing that they are wrong? But it even happened to Jesus! Many people felt threatened by his actions. What does that look like for us? Maybe we are teased for making friends with the ‘loser’ of the school or maybe we are excluded because we work hard at our academics.
The better we get to know Jesus and live in a way that follows his example, we do things that highlight other people’s weaknesses. People are threatened because they do not want to be expected to live as a positive example too.
The people and world around us may tempt us to just do whatever feels right in the moment, but it’s always so much better to live more like Jesus. We just have to trust that the Holy Spirit will help us even when we are mocked for the good things we do.
Others will see Jesus through your example!
Prayer: Lord, You know that many people do not see what you see. Help me to be more like Jesus even when I am challenged because of it. Please help other people get to know Jesus through the good things I do.
Challenge: Take note of who responds negatively when you do the right thing – it’s an opportunity to share Jesus with them through the way you live.
