Make Your Bed

‘Better to get angry slowly than to be a hero. Better to be even-tempered than to capture a city.’ – Proverbs 16:32

We are all disciples of Jesus if we love, follow and obey Him. Disciple and discipline have the same root word. The word “discipline” means training & correcting to produce order and obedience and to bring under control. God allows trials in our lives to train and discipline and strengthen us for Godly living.

In the same way, our parents have the responsibility and the authority to discipline us. We need to intelligently understand the dealings of our parents when they discipline us. We need to realise that there is a reason for their behavior.

Some parents are kind and are keen to be involved in their teenagers’ lives. They are demonstrative and show their love both in words and deeds. Not all parents are like this, unfortunately. Some parents are distant and self-absorbed, but we can still learn from them, even if it is how not to do things.

The American Naval Scouts’ first responsibility is to make their bed. The reason for this is that it is a form of self-discipline. All discipline is profitable. Remember this each time you have to make your bed. A small task such as making your bed can be the first step to greatness.

It is your parents’ duty and responsibility to discipline you to prepare you for life challenges in the future.

Make Your Bed

Prayer: Lord, please help me to honor my parents and patiently obey them. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Challenge: When you wake up in the morning, make your bed. This will set the tone for the day. Trust God to help you follow the guidance of your parents.
