1 John 4:21 “Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
Most of us have siblings in our families. We live together and sometimes we get upset with each other. The brotherly love that we share, may help us to forgive them and live together in peace.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we become the “children of God” with many brothers and sisters! It can be difficult to love these “siblings” naturally and to live in peace with them. How do we do it?
The secret lies in the Word of God. Jesus often spoke of love being the center point of our relationship with each other. But He takes it to another level when He tells us in John 15:4-15 “Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you… When you’re joined with me and I with you… the harvest is sure to be abundant… Make yourselves at home in my love… This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you…”
As in Galatians 2:20, if we love Him, we can proclaim “It is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me.” This same verse says that I have been crucified with Christ and thus, the part of me that was unable to love any person has died with Jesus on the cross. Therefore, through His life and through His love flowing through me, I can fully love my “brother”!
If we allow Jesus to live in us and through us and if we stay in Him, as He is in us, we will easily be able to love, not only our brother, but every person whom we encounter.
Prayer: Jesus, today I choose to live in You, as You chose to live in me when I accepted You as Lord and Saviour of my soul. Please help me to love in the same way that You love, by letting Your love flow through me toward others. Please let Your love within me draw those who don’t know You closer to You.
Challenge: So today, as you encounter others, let that love that is living inside of you, freely flow out to touch their hearts and minds!
