‘We hear that some of you are not living disciplined lives. You’re not working, so you go around interfering in other people’s lives.’ – 2 Thessalonians 3:11
My schedule was filled with classes, extracurricular activities, homework, and chores during my high school years, leaving little time for anything else. When I reached matric, the workload seemed to increase even more. However, when Covid happened, everything changed, and suddenly I had more free time to spend with the Lord.
As 2022 started, I had to adapt to online university classes, and it was during this time that I began to hear God’s voice. The issue wasn’t that God wasn’t speaking; instead, I wasn’t actively listening, which prevented me from hearing Him. In 2021, the Lord allowed me to have a gap year, where I had no commitments and could focus solely on Him. During that year, I finally surrendered and prayed, “Let Your will be done.”
In His infinite wisdom, my heavenly Father removed unnecessary distractions from my life, allowing me to prioritize Him. Loneliness became a frequent companion, but I underwent a transformation through that solitude. I learned to run to God in moments of loneliness and in times of happiness and adversity. The Lord changed me; although I’m not perfect, I have become a new person in Christ.
Loneliness is something we all need to experience at times. It is in those moments that we should turn to God. More than any material possessions, you’ll be amazed at the person you can become in Jesus Christ.
Loneliness Is Essential For Growth
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful for Your constant presence in every moment of my life. Sometimes, I become busy and make excuses for not spending time with You. Father, I ask for the spirit of self-control to prioritize spending time with You in every aspect of my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Challenge: If your phone allows it, I encourage you to check how much time you spend on your phone compared to your time with God. Even if your phone doesn’t have this feature, actively open your Bible before touching your phone in the morning and at night. Prioritize God’s presence in your life.
