2 Corinthians 4:18
18 We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever.
We all have role models that we look up to. Perhaps we look up to them because we appreciate their sincerity, their humility, or their leadership qualities. But none of them just woke up that way when they were 7 years old – maybe their parents wish it was so, but no, they also kicked and screamed a lot. Their qualities have come from practicing those things.
In the same way, the things we practice every day, determine who we become. So if all we think about is having the latest clothes or being the best athlete, then we miss out on things that have eternal value. Now it’s definitely not wrong to enjoy things like sport and fashion, but at the end of the day it’s always better to know God and become more like Jesus because it has eternal worth.
So let’s not focus only on things that make us happy straight away. Let’s rather chase after things that have future value.
Let’s chase after things that have eternal value!
Prayer: Lord You know that I often get stuck concentrating on things that just make me happy now and have no future value. Help me to focus on the things that last longer and have eternal value.
Challenge: Identify one thing that demands a lot of your attention: something that has little eternal value. Is there a way you can use it to add eternal value to your life? Or is this something you may have to give up?
