Two of the most profound questions you’ll ever face demand answers: “Who is God?” and “Who am I?” In this devotion, we’ll explore the interconnectedness of these 2 questions and how understanding God leads to discovering your true identity.
Imagine this image: an apple and its tree. They are inseparable, just as we are inseparable from God. Just as the apple cannot exist without the tree, we cannot truly live without God. Creation finds its profound purpose and identity in God, its Creator. Everything that emanates from God flows from His intrinsic nature; He is unwaveringly true to Himself, never acting in contradiction to His essence. Consequently, your identity and all God has created are eternally intertwined with His attributes.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:20, “They can clearly perceive His invisible attributes, namely His eternal power and His Divinity, from the world’s creation from His handiwork.” This verse reminds us that as we gaze upon the marvels of creation, we glimpse God’s divine attributes, a testament to His eternal power and Divinity.
Consider this: for you to be created, sustained, known, loved, and forgiven, there must be a Creator, Sustainer, Knower, Lover, and Forgiver. Your identity and your humanity can only be comprehended within the context of God’s identity.
If you dare to ask God to reveal your true self, He won’t merely provide an answer; He’ll also beckon you to focus on Him and deepen your knowledge of Him. In the Bible, you’ll find numerous attributes of God, and He proclaimed, “I am as I am” (Exodus 3:14). As you understand God, your identity will become more apparent. Remember, knowing God leads to knowing yourself.
Knowing God and Discovering Your True Identity
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for being a God who personally reveals Himself to us, allowing us to know You intimately. Help us to delve deeper into Your nature and character.
Challenge: Set aside time to marvel at the beauty of God’s creation and offer praise to Him for His magnificent handiwork.
