2 Corinthians 4:17
17 We have small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that is much greater than the troubles.
Anyone who has ever done competitive sport and had to compete at provincial, national or international level will tell you they had to go through a lot of exercise and a lot of pain to get themselves to the point where they can compete against the best.
If we only think about what happens right now, we will out miss many amazing things. Just imagine Lionel Messi (who some people say is the best soccer player in the world) decided he was just going to practice until he experienced a bit of pain and not go any further. We would never have heard of him, because he would never have become so good.
So let’s remember to look forward, beyond the uncomfortable things that come with following Jesus. Let’s practice things like love, patience, kindness and mercy. And you better believe it that doing these kinds of things will not be comfortable. But as people who love Jesus, we look forward to all the wonderful things God has in mind. These wonderful things are not temporary, they are things that make the discomfort of love worthwhile.
Keep looking forward … There are amazing things ahead!
Prayer: Father, I know that you have so many amazing plans for me. When I want to give up on the good things, help me to push through even if it hurts, because I know that you are with me all the way.
Challenge: Let’s look forward today in a practical way… Read 1 Corinthians 10:31 as well today. What everyday things can you do for God’s glory today?
