Romans 5:1-2
1 Since we have been made right with God by our faith, we have peace with God. This happened through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 who through our faith has brought us into that blessing of God’s grace that we now enjoy. And we are happy because of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory.
Nowadays we are able to watch movies in so many ways. We might go to the cinema, we can use Netflix, downloads, DSTV, Blu-ray. But have you realized that there aren’t many DVD stores anymore? The world around us seems to change very quickly. When DVDs came out, everyone was hyped about it, but now DVDs have become very old news.
What hasn’t become old news is Jesus. While many other things are changing, Jesus’ life stays just as valuable today as it was 2000 years ago. Our hope (and joy) is not in things like DVDs (that can become old news), but rather in Jesus. Because God freed us from sin and accepted us through Jesus, we are able to have hope in what God will make happen.
Jesus wants to change the world around us in new and amazing ways – this is exciting! Our hope lies in the fact that Jesus’ love is spreading all around us. Jesus’ love is not just for when we are in heaven one day, but extends to every corner of our streets and towns and countries. Our greatest hope is that God still works in the world.
Jesus is not old news – he is our joy.
Prayer: Jesus, I believe you live and because you live, I can have hope. I have hope because I know You will never be old news, but that you are a reason for my joy every day.
Challenge: Choose a way to respond happily today to God’s love. Maybe you can sing with a worship song, or maybe you want to draw something or give something? There are many possibilities, but make it practical.
