Matthew 5:17 MSG “Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama.”
The Bible presents us with a lot of challenges: perplexing laws and very troubling stories. It’s easy for us to scratch our heads as we try to figure out how to make sense of it. I’ve heard people say that they just like to focus on Jesus… I get it!
So what should we do? Is it okay to focus on one part of the Bible, the New Testament, and ignore the rest? The answer, according to Jesus, is a big fat no! We can’t toss the history, laws, songs, sayings, and prophets out. Think of the parts of the Scriptures that you just don’t like…
According to Jesus, all of that matters!
Prayer: Lord, help me to pursue You with all that I have got so that I can obey the full Bible. Show me the bigger picture when I cannot see it in the little details and odd facts. Help me to discern, by Your Spirit, what each piece means today. Amen.
Challenge: Read Zechariah 9:9. It doesn’t make much sense, right? But, now read Mark 11:1-11. See how the whole Bible tells one story? It’s amazing, really!
