“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. “ – Ephesians 6:17
The young man is cold, hungry and tired, but he knows he must get up to fight. Arriving at the war zone, he realises that he has no weapon on him.
How do you think that soldier should feel? He knows that he must fight in a war, but he has no way he can defend himself or fight back. Do you feel that way too? You know the enemy is attacking you, but you don’t know how to fight back. Sometimes you just leave your God-given weapon (Ephesians 6:17 The message of God is like a sword that the Holy Spirit gives you to fight with) at home on purpose.
In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus shows us how to use the Word as a weapon against the enemy. This passage shows satan waiting to attack when you are extremely weak. He waits until you feel a failure in every part of your life and are on the ground, and then he makes his move. Jesus knew where His steadfastness and His help came from.
We are at war, but the battle is God’s. Our job is to stand strong against the enemy’s lies about ourselves, bullying by others, acts that hurt, every fleshly desire and every doubt and fearful thought.
The battle is tough, and we get tired. But God’s Word protects us, it refreshes us and makes us strong every day from the start.
God’s Word Is A Weapon
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being such an example to me of how I should use Your Word to oppose any fight. I want to stand against every attack of the enemy. Please give me strength and wisdom on how to do it every day. Amen.
Challenge: Prepare your weapon and sharpen your sword. Get to know your Bible by reading and contemplating it. You can’t show up at a fight without a weapon. God gives you the weapon, but it is your responsibility to know how to use it.
