“Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!” – Psalm 119:5
Psalm 119 is a song about God’s law. He explains that the people who obey this law of God will be blessed. In verse 5, the poet of the Psalm focuses on the actions of a believer, people like you and me. He explains that our actions should always reflect our desire to obey the Word.
In our lives where responsibilities like tests, sports, friends, school and more consume our lives, it is sometimes difficult to focus on God and His Word. The weight of parental pressure and expectations leaves us simply trying to survive. In these times, we often feel distant from God, for lack of time. We’re too focused on what needs to be done and regardless of our performances, we’re just focusing on the result.
This Psalm reminds us that our actions should always reflect that we are children of God. The Bible is a guideline that can lead us into our busy lives. It’s a resource that advises us precisely when things are going hard. All it asks of us is for us to obey it.
God Speaks Through His Word
Prayer: Father, thank you that I can be your child. Help me obey Your Word and commands. Help me to turn to You in dark times and not to the world. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Challenge: See if you can focus on your actions today. Ask yourself: Is what I’m doing now something a child of the Lord would do? Look for guidance in the Bible.
