Luke 22:61-62
61 Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered what the Lord had said: “Before the rooster crows this day, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” 62 Then Peter went outside and cried painfully.
Do you ever wonder what happens between Friday and Sunday of Jesus’ death and resurrection? I can just imagine how some of the disciples must have felt. Jesus, a friend of theirs had just died – and he didn’t even do anything wrong. And what must have gone through Peter’s mind? The last thing he did was to deny that he knows Jesus at all.
Sometimes we tend to live with so much regret (especially when we know we messed up big time) about things that seem like the end of the world. Peter couldn’t even tell his friend Jesus that he loved Him before He died. As we know, Jesus does not stay dead. Once Peter meets Jesus again, Jesus doesn’t ignore him, but rather reconciles with Peter.
Let us remember today that Jesus’s death was made complete so that we can have full hope that He is able to turn things around. It doesn’t mean that we should go out looking for trouble, but rather that when we feel like we’ve disappointed God, he has all the love in the world to chase after us and show His love to us again and again.
God can mend our broken hearts.
Prayer: Today God I want to thank you, I want to thank you that you chase me down even when I feel like running away or when I feel like I have disappointed you. You do not give up on me and help me to see your love again and again.
Challenge: Is there something you struggle to believe that God can heal/forgive? Pray another prayer today asking God to heal your relationship with Him just as he had done with Peter. And know that God can mend broken things.
