God authorised and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
This verse strikes a chord deep within and makes me somewhat anxious. It’s an important commission from God and I sometimes question my capabilities. Then I remind myself of what we learned this week. We cannot undertake such a commission when we are not yet a disciple of God. This is our first step. Second, we must learn how to serve others. And only then are we ready to make disciples of other people.
We have grown from a young sapling to the present and need to show others how we managed to do this. While we don’t always need to shout out the Truth publicly, we can start with those closest to us, our family, our friends, at school or on the sports field.
Along with the commission Jesus gives us, He also gives us a wonderful promise — we don’t have to do it alone. He will stand firm by your side in every circumstance, telling you with His Spirit what to do.
Go Make Disciples
Prayer: Jesus, I’m sometimes afraid of the commands You give me, but I want to obey You. Strengthen my mind and heart for this task. Thank You for Your promise that You will always be with me and guide me. Amen.
