“That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” – Romans 8:28
When we think of pain and suffering, we usually ask: Why? Why do bad things happen to good people? Bad things have happened to all of us and more bad things are going to happen in the future. Not because God wants to teach us a lesson or because He is angry with us or wants to test us. No, bad things happen, because we live in a broken world.
We have the freedom to make our own choices. Sometimes we make the wrong decisions that cause hurt and pain to others. When these challenging things happen to us, Paul reminds us that God works all things for the good of those who love Him.
Paul says when things get tough, and people’s actions hurt us, we should hold onto God even more steadfastly. In these situations, you can decide whether you are going to let the choices of others get you down or you can remind yourself that God will help you change this bad situation to a positive one, despite other’s poor choices.
Does Pain Have a Purpose?
Prayer: Almighty heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity and privilege of being Your child. Help us to remain hopeful in this broken world and make us aware anew that You will work all things together for good. Amen.
Challenge: How do you cope with pain in your life? Decide today to sit at God’s feet during dark times, rather than trying to blame someone for what is happening.
