“So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.” – 2 Peter 1:5
A friend of mine entered the full Ironman race. You definitely have to train for this and months before, he got a coach who told him exactly what distances he had to cover per day. My friend realised that no off day was included and he asked the coach why so. The coach replied that he doesn’t trust in having days off.
When we become children of God, we don’t have a day off either. Every day we live for Him, and our actions and way of life must show this. Fortunately, we also have a coach who helps us with that. This time it is Peter. His first suggestion is: Go about it this way: Always make an effort to do only the right things.
We are sinful by nature. Before we know it, we have fallen into the trap of sin again. This is our default. It is very hard work to always do what’s right. Sometimes we don’t even realise we are not doing the right thing, because it is so natural to us.
It’s not always easy to get up early to train, but there is no day off. It’s hard work to walk on the right path all the time. We must listen to Coach Peter and join the gym of life. Fortunately, we don’t do it alone, but we have the Holy Spirit’s help. Let’s be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and do what is right.
Do What The Coach Says:Do The Right Thing!
Prayer: Father, thank you for not leaving us alone, but helping us to walk the right path in life. Spirit, help me to live right every day. I ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Challenge: Consider your daily life and where you sometimes take time off from God. Listen to your coach and do the right thing. See where you can shine God’s light today and do it, even if it’s hard.
