“Together with steadfastness goes a life that glorifies God. Glorify God’s name in everything you do.” – 1 Peter 1:6
Coach Peter gives us another assignment. He tells us all our lives must speak of God’s name. Everything we do must glorify His name. We must show who we belong to through the small things and great things.
What fruit are you bearing? When someone watches you from afar, can they see that you are God’s child? If someone after chatting with you wonders what was different about you, is that going to be a good or bad thought?
There is great hardship in the world; hardship that is in everyone’s heart, but they don’t necessarily know where to look for or ask for help. So, they scrutinize those around them – especially people who say they belong to the church.
The way we talk to others, what words we use, how we look at others, and how we conduct ourselves in a relatively difficult situation speaks volumes about what we believe in. Every moment of our lives we must use to glorify God.
How does one do this? Talk about God. Tell others about the good things He has done in your life. Don’t be afraid to mention His name in conversations. Be brave. Other people may be afraid, but He is going to give you the power to do so. Maybe you start a conversation that helps others get closer to God.
Another way we glorify God’s Name is to be good to others by serving them. Serve as Jesus served the people around Him, without expecting anything back. Buy an extra sandwich for your friend, make tea for a girlfriend, or go and pray for someone you know is struggling, without expecting anything back. Prayer: Lord, You are so great and all-powerful. I want to tell everyone who You are. Please give me the courage and strength to show it to people every day and tell them how good You are. Amen.
