‘So, here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. … Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.’ – Romans 12:1-2
When people say they have a sporty lifestyle, it implies that they exercise regularly, eat healthily and take good care of themselves. When we talk about a lifestyle of worship, it also requires something that needs to be exercised daily.
Your relationship with God is supposed to be an active relationship that cannot simply be switched on and off on a Sunday. Paul writes in this Roman text that it is a command for us to allow God to renew us from within. We should not get comfortable with the evil of the world. During worship we should become quiet and think: How can I honour God in my daily routine? How do I know that what I’m doing is within the Lord’s will?
We must allow God to change our way of thinking. Then we’ll know what He is expecting from us. This implies that if I only limit my faith to a Sunday service and from Monday to Saturday, I do my own thing, it is impossible to have a true lifestyle of worship. A lifestyle of worship requires a daily desire to become closer to God so that we can strive to do His will to the best of our ability.
A Lifestyle Of Worship
Prayer: When looking at everything you have to do today, challenge yourself to purposefully make God part of it all.
Challenge: Loving God, I thank you for the privilege to be Your child. Please help me to strive to do Your will daily so that I may have a lifestyle of worship. Amen.
