‘I am a friend to everyone who fears You and to everyone who follows Your guiding principles.’ – Psalms 119:63
The Bible contains examples of good friendships between people of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures. Let’s look at three such friendships.
Ruth and Naomi. Ruth was Naomi’s daughter-in-law, and they were from different cultures. Despite their differences, they had a profound and loving friendship (Ruth 1:26).
David and Jonathan. Jonathan was a prince and David a shepherd, yet the Bible says a close friendship developed between them. Their friendship was so strong that Jonathan warned David of His father’s plans to kill him. (1 Samuel 18:1).
Finally, Jesus and His disciples. Jesus had a position of authority over His disciples. He was their Teacher and their Master (John 13:13). But despite this, He did not raise Himself above them; He told them that they were His friends. Listen to His words recorded in John 15:14-15: “I call you friends, for I have told you all that I have heard from my Father.”
Remember, God wants a relationship with you. He wants to be your friend: “He is a good friend of those who live right.” (Proverbs 3:32). Start your friendship with the living God today and share your heart and life with Him.
A Friend Like No Other
Prayer: Father, just as you have given wonderful friendships to the people in the Bible, please send me such beautiful friends on my way to. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Challenge: Go to your room, pray, and ask God if He is satisfied with your choices of friends. Ask Him to show you how to find the right friends if He isn’t.
