There is a proverb that says, “You can choose your friends, but not your family!” When we read in John 1 that we are “children of God,” it works a little differently. God chose you to be His child. You are more than just a friend of Jesus. He is your Brother. Jesus makes you part of a family with whom He wants to enjoy the roadtrip of a lifetime.

“Children of God … are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”

Dear Jesus, thank You for being the perfect brother who , and being part of God’s family makes me feel . Thank You, Lord, that I may say, ‘I am a child of God.’ Amen.
📢 Identity statement
Say it out loud: “I am a child of God.”
🎨 Respond
Draw a tree and include all the names of your family members that you know. Write the names of friends and people you are thinking of in it as well. Everyone is a child of God, even those who are not your blood relatives. Pray for all the names in your “family tree.”

Take a photo of a tree as a sign that God’s children are part of Jesus’ family tree. #ChildOfGod.
